ECORE's PlayGuard® Donates Playground Tiles to Lancaster Day Care Center
The Lancaster Day Care Center (LDCC), a non-profit organization committed to providing early education and affordable childcare for children in Lancaster, Pa., recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open its newly resurfaced playground. The mulch at the playground was replaced with PlayGuard Safety Surfacing, manufactured in Lancaster by ECORE, a company that transforms reclaimed waste into unique performance surfacing.
The previous playground surface consisted of mulch, which, according to the Department of Public Welfare, poses potential health hazards for infants and toddlers under the age of two-years-old and prohibits them from playing on such surfaces.
"ECORE was happy to donate surfacing that provides a safe, clean place for children to play," said Arthur Dodge, III, President and Chief Executive Officer of ECORE. "PlayGuard is designed to reduce the risk of serious injuries associated with falls from playground equipment."
The LDCC features eight learning enriched classrooms for children eight-weeks to five-years-old and a large outdoor playground area. "We have provided a safe-haven for these kids with the outdoor play area," said Nina Moragne, Executive Director for Lancaster Day Care. "In some cases this is the only time they are able to get physical activity."
